ASSESSMENTS FOR YOUNG DRIVERS

Young people are being offered the chance to improve their driving skills with a new evaluation course.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents has developed the Young Drivers' Assessment for people aged 17 to 24.

The appraisal marks a development of RoSPA’s road safety services, which already include an assessment for more experienced drivers.

More than 300 newly-qualified drivers and their passengers are killed in car crashes each year.

The Young Drivers' Assessment aims to provide objective appraisals of young motorists’ driving skills, enabling them to take action to improve areas of concern.

HELMER DEMANDS REFERENDUM ON EU

The Government must grant the British people a referendum on the EU Constitution, says East Midlands Conservative MEP Roger Helmer.

His call came after David Cameron launched a new campaign demanding the Government 'honours its manifesto commitment'.

Mr Helmer said: "The Lisbon Treaty is significant because it fundamentally alters the way in which we are governed. Not only would the EU have a President and Foreign Minister, it would also have a legal personality, enabling it to sign treaties.

"This campaign is important. It is about giving people a voice over the way they are governed and maintaining trust between politicians and the electorate."
