Now's the time to get the jogging bug

PEOPLE in Ashbourne are being encourged to take part in organised jogging sessions to improve their health and fitness.

The Jog Derbyshire programme, promoted by Derbyshire Dales District Council, is aimed at anyone who has not jogged before or who has not run for some time.

Sessions, costing £1.50, start from Ashbourne Leisure Centre on Tuesdays at 10.30am.

They are led by qualified Jog Derbyshire leaders.

Councillor Andrew Lewer, chairman of the district council's Community and Environment Committee, said: “The scheme offers a great opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to take part in enjoyable, gentle exercise, improve their fitness levels and meet new people in a friendly and supportive environment."

Reach the 'roof of Africa'

ASHBOURNE News Online readers looking for excitement and adventure are being given the chance to reach the 'roof of Africa'.

Marie Curie Cancer Care wants daredevils from the town to sign up for its Kilimanjaro Trek 2010.

Mount Kilimanjaro , in north-eastern Tanzania, is the highest mountain in Africa.

The expedition, from June 10 to 19 next year, will take participants up the mountain via the Rongai route.

Marie Curie Cancer Care local fundraiser Laura Clarke said: “Taking on this challenge will be an unforgettable experience that will leave you with vivid memories and a real sense of achievement.

"With every step you take you’ll know that your efforts are helping local Marie Curie nurses to provide free home-nursing to people with terminal cancer and other illnesses in our community.”
