Tory hits out at Euro PC 'claptrap'

A NEW publication by the European Parliament has been branded ridiculous by local Conservative MEP Chris Heaton-Harris.

The booklet, called Gender Neutral Language In The European Parliament, gives guidelines on how to address others while in the Parliament so not to offend.

MEPs who use the term 'chairman' when addressing a female are likely to be brought to book, and told to use more politically-correct terms such as 'chairperson' or 'madam chair'.

It also suggests travelling MEPs should not use the term 'air hostess'.

Mr Heaton-Harris said: “At a time when the Parliament should be tightening its belt, like everyone else, it has chosen to waste tonnes of money on this politically-correct claptrap.

"This really is the sort of rubbish that brings ridicule on the European Parliament."
