Vibrant colours ... one of Jean Luce's landscapes..

AN exhibition of landscape paintings by Jean Luce is being staged at Ashbourne's Dovedale Gallery on Dig Street.

Jean's atmospheric creations and vibrant colours reflect her love of rugged scenery and the variety of landscape throughout Yorkshire and Derbyshire.

She enjoys hill and mountain walking and sketching directly from nature. She says her work is constantly changing - with her mood, the weather and the environment.

"Painting for me is a solitary, almost meditative activity and I need to create a lot of space around it to see what emerges," she said.

"Although my work at present is fairly representational, I try to avoid the pretty or predictable. I love colour but don't like to be fixed to a particular style."

Sheffield-based Jean has painted and drawn from an early age and studied Fine Art and Film at Leeds University. She developed a love of Derbyshire and the Peaks as a child, exploring the area with her father, who was a keen walker.

The exhibition runs until Wednesday,June 17.
